Don't just take our word for it...

Meet Eddie

“The Oxbridge Formula courses were of much use to me as they went above and beyond the A level maths and further maths syllabuses, talking more about solving problems and finding your own approach rather than following the ‘scaffolding’ in any normal maths exam paper. For instance, learning about the true nature of points of inflection and what the phrase ‘if and only if’ really means.

Furthermore, the advice I got on presenting solutions and explaining things clearly and concisely was invaluable. Not only did the course help me prepare for the STEP exams, but as I start life at university it is becoming increasingly self-evident that the skills I was taught will be very helpful as an undergraduate as well.

Oh yeah - after the course, I got four A*s and S, S, 1 in STEP 1, 2 & 3!”

Meet Bijal

“It was great to be able to work with so many skilled mathematicians who were also struggling with STEP and to solve the questions together. The tutors were friendly, taught all the material and offered excellent help. It was great to work through the solutions as a class after attempting them individually.

I got a grade 1 in STEP 2 and a grade 2 in STEP 3 (one mark of a 1) and 4 A*s at A Level. I got a place at University of Cambridge to study Mathematics.

I just wanted to say thank you to all the teachers at The Oxbridge Formula. These courses are why I was able to attempt the STEP examinations. Thank you for teaching us all the different techniques, methods and tricks. The feedback for the mock was also very useful and really helped with the June exams.”

Meet Manjari

"The absolute best part of this course was that it gave me confidence in my own ability, which doing questions alone at home never did.

The teachers were friendly and supportive and hinted at how to approach a problem, allowing us to figure it out for ourselves rather than simply giving us answers. The course also helped me to understand the best ways to approach STEP questions, breaking down each question into smaller, more manageable problems.

Another major benefit was being in an environment which allowed us to discuss problems with other STEP students and learn from each other’s ideas, something that wasn’t available to me at home.

I got 4 A*s and a 1 in STEP 3 and a 2 in STEP 2, but still got my place because I was only a few marks off a 1. The courses really really helped me and I definitely wouldn’t have done as well without them – I’ve been recommending the courses to people I know doing STEP."

"The programme definitely helped me pick up on subtleties in STEP questions and adopt a different way of thinking to make the problems much more accessible." –Katherine
"It’s really engaging working as a team - it makes the questions feel less daunting. Moreover, the strategies recommended are priceless when it comes to efficiency in answering questions." –Edward

🥈🥇 Fortnightly STEP skills workshops following our P.R.O.F. methodology, leading up to the Easter course ➤

Over the course of the first half of the year, we will be holding a number of online (Zoom) skills workshops, which get you thinking in the right way for STEP success. These will generally be held on weekends or during UK school holidays.

You’ve probably heard about essay-planning. It works for STEP questions too. We teach you how to tackle long, challenging problems using a methodology we’ve coined “Problem Planning”

Reflective Reflex
Without proper reflection on the questions you’ve done, you won’t learn the lessons buried deep inside each question. We’ll cover how to squeeze the most value out of every question to aid your future success!

Outline and Organise
We’ve found that students often lose marks because they don’t communicate their answers well on paper! We’ll teach you how to lay your work out logically, to impress!

Fast and Fluent
Speed comes from being able to rapidly evaluate questions. One of the benefits of our P, R and O steps is that they all also contribute to improving your speed.

Planned dates: Subject to change given the current lockdown situation in the UK

Problem Planning and Reflective Reflex
- February 7th & 21st
- March 7th & 21st

Outline and Organise - practical tips for laying out your work better to aid your own understanding and get more marks - Thursday 18th March & Thursday 15th April

Personal Statement Workshop - Saturday 26th June
(All dates are provisional and subject to change.)

"I think the problem-planning is very important in terms of improving problem solving skills as I found that just using a mark scheme doesn't get you anywhere." - Jack

🥈🥇 2x exclusive pre-recorded, topic-by-topic video STEP course ➤

Unique system of hints maximises potential value
We include a series of hints for each question which give increasing amounts away, so you can always look for as much or as little of a clue as you need, and therefore can do as much of the question as you can yourself before viewing the tutor's explanation.

Course 1:
This course focuses on topics core to all STEP papers.

An especially difficult and little-revised topic is geometry.
Therefore we include many questions on the geometry of circles, the application of trigonometry in geometry, and the geometry of three-dimensional figures.
Other topics:
- Exotic sequences and series, including series of functions
- Integration applied to inequalities and estimates
- Graph sketching, particularly for rational functions
- Manipulating logarithms

Course 2:
This course focuses on the most difficult STEP topics.

It can be hard to build an intuition for working in three dimensions, but geometry, vectors, and trigonometry questions can all take place there. One theme of this course is to teach you how to analyse problems in 3D and make them doable.

Other topics:
- More complex definitions and properties of sequences
- Manipulating factorials and establishing factorial identities
- Inverse trigonometric functions
- Parametric equations and graph sketching

"I learnt a lot of invaluable tips and techniques. I never really understood how to get to the final, written-out solution for a lot of STEP questions before this course, but it helped me understand the specific ways of thinking needed for STEP." -Shubanu

"The course makes STEP more approachable and it has given me the confidence to put more work in at home. Focusing on specific topics has helped me understand them in depth in useful ways I can apply to the questions." -Lucas

🥈🥇 FAST ACTION BONUS: 2x Exam-Condition Full Marked Mocks

Success Stories

Meet Josh

"I was really struggling with STEP before I went on the Easter course as at school I'd learned the topics but hadn't understood them in depth.

Before I came on the course it wasn’t likely I was going to meet my offer for Mathematics, but the course helped strengthened my knowledge and allowed me to access a far wider range of topics in the exam.

Thanks to this I managed to get the grades and get my place. I was also only 3 marks off a perfect 120 score in STEP 1. I was absolutely thrilled and wanted to say thanks so much for your help over the course :)"

Meet Anusha

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would recommend it to others sitting STEP. The structure was very good and the support was really helpful. It was intensive which allowed me to immerse myself in the Maths we are doing.

I took away some really important skills and ideas from the course that I could put into my own STEP practice, such as clever tricks and things to look out for.

Also, meeting and working with other mathematicians doing STEP is a really great experience and the tutors encouraged us to collaborate and speak to the people around us.

And I made my STEP offer, so thank you for all the help!"

Meet James

"When I attended my first STEP course, I had begun tackling STEP questions but I had had no guidance beyond the somewhat limited official solutions. The first course taught me how to formally lay out my argument as well as teaching me various tricks to arrive at an answer quicker. So, for me at least, it turned my ability to solve a problem and understand the principles into being able to produce a well written answer which will gain significantly more marks in a STEP exam.

The courses I attended also focused on specific areas such as trig and working with graphs, which gave me more confidence on these specific types of questions.

I got 1SS, specifically: 100 in STEP 1, 98 in STEP 2 and 91 in STEP 3. Thank you for running these courses, and I hope they continue in the future!"

Meet Oscar

"The course was well-structured and helpful. I went on feeling much more confident about STEP than before. Moreover, the environment is perfect for learning – excellent teaching and effective methodology.

Some new things I learned are: probability generating functions, techniques for spring problems, oblique asymptotes, and Leibniz’ differentiation rule.

I achieved SSS in the three STEP exams and I am going to read Maths at Cambridge in October! Thank you STEPMaths for the excellent support."

"I really liked how we began each topic by addressing the fundamentals, as it really simplified the process of answering such challenging questions.

There was always help available when we were working individually, and the group work and whole class demonstrations really helped as you learnt new methods of problem solving. I would definitely recommend to anyone sitting STEP papers."

"This course was incredible. The problems were challenging but rewarding. The presenters friendly as well as being clear in their explanations.
I enjoyed learning the best ways to tackle STEP problems as well as learning with other students who are at a similar level in maths."

"It was great to work with other mathematicians on high level maths problems and to also see different approaches to problems.
The tutors are all really helpful and approachable, which makes such a difference. Working on hard questions with people able to give hints and suggestions is really useful, as you know someone will be able to explain it if you don't understand it. The preparatory questions before tackling questions are also useful as they get you in the zone."

"The friendly and knowledgeable staff provided elegant worked through solutions by various methods and very useful help on questions when necessary. They break down questions so that they are easier to tackle and provide starter questions to get the students looking for the right methods to tackle a problem.

I have learnt several mathematical techniques and have improved my understanding of mathematical concepts that I was already familiar with as well.

It has also been nice to meet and work with fellow mathematicians who will most likely be attending similar universities to me. This is particularly encouraging because you get the chance to meet people who are going to have to sit the same difficult exam as you."

"It was a great opportunity to start preparing for STEP in a friendly environment with the chance of asking for help whenever needed. The low student-teacher ratio meant that 1-1 help was often provided and this helped clarify many ideas.
I would recommend the course to anyone thinking of taking STEP and looking to learn new maths."

"The course required hard work, but was also a lot of fun. Everyone there was interested in learning and so the atmosphere was conducive to studying.

I really liked that before we delved into any STEP question, we covered preparatory questions so that I had a clue how to start each question. Everyone was very supportive and friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed the group work."

"The concepts were clearly and thoroughly explained. This was a good opportunity to work in groups, discussing ideas with other people, and I was able to learn a lot this way.
The tutors were very friendly and willing to provide individual help as well, so overall this course was a valuable experience."

"There was a good-sized class of students eager to learn, with a good teacher to student ratio - whenever help was needed it was available.

The tutors encouraged us to think for ourselves and to persevere even when the maths was difficult, which helped to challenge ourselves to learn new things.

We were given the chance to work things out in pairs and share our solutions, which allowed everyone the opportunity to attempt questions and learn.  It was a great opportunity to make new friends and receive help and good tuition from helpful teachers. I had fun stretching myself and learning new maths!"

"Working with other students on tough maths problems is not something that everyone can experience at school - being able to discuss complex ideas and get hints and different approaches from each other is not just invaluable preparation for STEP, but also strengthens your mathematical ability in general.
The tutors were also keen and willing to help where they could, offering just the right amount of support and encouragement to help you progress.
Thank you :-) "

"The workshop is very helpful. It helps me find out the aspects that I need to improve and figure out the bits that made no sense to me before. Tutors are very helpful and they check through your working all the way. I benefited a lot from it."

"I have learnt how to think about questions differently and to fully understand what the question is asking, which I would not have done on my own, so thank you!"
